Hmmm reading the end of this article , one readers comments makes a humorous reference to the 1983 Matthew Broderick thriller ‘War Games.

Didn't Russia test fire four missiles from a submerged sub recently?
PS: Okay as mentioned there.

Stanislav Yevgrafovich Petrov

Ever heard of him? no? We all should have, if it wasn’t for him we wouldn’t be here today, the man was possibly the saviour of us all.

Vasili Alexandrovich Arkhipov

Is another that stopped his commanding officer launching a nuclear torpedo during the Cuban missile strike and bringing the world to the brink of destruction.

I was based in West Germany at the time of the false Allied missile strike warning in Russia. We heard a rumour about that incident not long after it must have happened. I can recall exactly where I was at the time I heard it and I was posted back to U.K. a few weeks later.

He should be honoured by both East and West!

Was that the one that was part of Ex Able Archer?
