There are reports that a VS fight from SFO has diverted to Winnipeg following "smoke in the cabin" - after a member of the SLF spilled a drink(?).

Of such minutiae life is made up

When interviewed on BBC TV at the delivery ceremony of his first A340-600, Richard Branson stated that Virgin Atlantic operated only four engined aircraft because they don't have to divert to somewhere like Greenland as B777s have to do if they suffer an engine failure. I suppose he forgot about the damage a G & T can do in the hands of his well oiled SLF.

And he is right to. Those 777 blow blades like an old bloke losing his teeth over a prune pit !
Doesn't the time seem to go ever so long on one engine ? It does !

Beautifull aircraft this /600

Wallabe,

If what you are saying is true, looks like the -600 (or the /600 as you carelessly put it) will be having twice the engine failures as they are both powered by Trents!!! Take some time out to think about what you are slagging off.:p

AP reports(17/8):

"A jumbo jet carrying 412 passengers landed safely at Winnipeg airport after a pilot reported a spilled drink had shorted out part of the electrical system, filling a portion of the plane with smoke.
The pilot of Virgin Atlantic Airlines flight 02, en route from San Francisco to London, radioed in his initial distress call shortly after 9:30 p.m. CDT Friday (0030 GMT Saturday).

He said there was smoke in the passenger cabin of the Boeing 747 and that he was dumping fuel south of Winnipeg.

............................................................ .......

After a few minutes, the pilot radioed that smoke in the cabin was decreasing, and that he would be able to land the plane soon. Shortly afterward, he reported it appeared a passenger had spilled a drink and shorted out the aircraft's entertainment system.

The jet landed without incident shortly after 10 p.m. CDT (0100 GMT Saturday) and was guided to the terminal, followed by three airport fire trucks.

The passengers were not required to leave the plane."
