RAF VIP Dakota KG765

[Fris B. Fairing]

A significant section of this aircraft has found its way into an Australian museum. While researching its history it has emerged that the aircraft carried many VIPs in India and Pakistan during and immediately after the war. One such VIP was Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the revered father of Pakistan. This image is widely used on the web but in postage stamp size. Does anyone have a larger image and can anyone confirm that it is indeed an RAF image?

I do not think I have the photo, but this was quite an important aircraft with many stories to tell about VIPs on board. I think I have few later photos of it, though of poor quality. I know families of two pilots of it.

C-47 N2271C (13864/25309) was imported from Thailand in 1993 with the intention of operating ad hoc services for backpackers under the name Up Over Down Under (UODU). The aircraft never entered service and plans to import an additional two DC-3s from the same source were abandoned because of the poor condition of the first aircraft. N2271C was subsequently donated to the RAAF Aviation Heritage Centre at Amberley. The aircraft was broken up at Amberley on 16SEP20 because of extensive exfoliation corrosion. The nose section was gifted to the Maryborough Military Aviation Museum (Qld) and the rear fuselage incorporating the double doors was gifted to the Queensland Air Museum.
