I don't know what kind ov V1 and Vr you have on the 747. Would this takeoff be safe with engine failure just before/after V1?

Regardless of the runway length all B744 takeoffs are predicated on the failure of one engine 1 second prior to V1 and continuing the takeoff on 3 engines. I would guess that the normal planning went into this takeoff and it was perfectly safe.

Stacks of room!! Best one I saw at Heathrow was departing on 10L (now 09L). It suffered an engine failure just prior to lift off and the flames set fire to the grass on the other sie of the public road from the 28R threshold. Fortunately no buses or cars were passing at the time!!

I like to imagine photos like this as landings:D

A close look shows the a/c airbourne at 1000ft markers, so the rotation is probably complete. Vr is the speed/distance to initiate rotation to 13* or so @ 3*/sec, not to complete it.

Do not forget the clearway. Recall also that V1 may have been a fair distance back.

It is actually SYD rwy 34R, and the a/c is QF5 for SIN. Not too heavy on that sector.

If we were to imagine that photo as a landing, I hope the brakes have been significantly uprated!!!!

ahhh, the wonders of the zoom. The bigger the zoom you use, the more the image is compressed. Makes it look worse than it is. That aside, I have some nice photos of 747's in NZWN / WLG. Its about 500m shorter than rwy34r at SYD.

Photo doesn't look real to me. Something about the light on the main under carriage...
