Which is the preferred noise abatement departure procedure at major Canadian airports, and specifically Winnipeg CYWG, Close in or distant?

in general prefer NADP2 but if you intend to fly NADP 1 then ATC must be informed.

Basically, NADP2 is preferred as it gets you out of the way more quickly. If you are doing NADP1, you will be accelerating more slowly and therefore, ATC may want to increase space for the next guy if he is doing NADP2.

Do you have a reference?

Jeppesen Canada ATC para 7.6 sound rather flexible on which one to use.

It is solely up to the pilot in command as to which one to use, if not specifically mandated for that runway/airport.

From Transport Canada AIM: RAC
"NOTE: To assist in planning departure spacing, pilots intending to use NADP 1 at Canadian airports are to notify ATC Clearance Delivery or Ground Control. At airports where NADP 1 is the only procedure to follow, ATC does not need to be notified."
In addition, that warning is posted somewhere on most Canada Air Pilot departure noise abatement procedure plates.

I have never had any questioning about the use of NADP 1, (unless told to Tower for the first time at release for take-off!:O:ugh::O). There is no pushback if you would prefer to fly one or the other procedure, it is merely to allow ATC to plan the flow of departures.

I feel that sometimes Jeppesen, being an american company, has very little finesse when it comes to non-American procedures.
