This may be a stupid question, but is overflying Stonehenge at all possible ?

Yes! I have done it, a few years ago.

But you need to be aware of the restrictions over Salisbury Plain and the proximity of Boscombe.

I believe these considerations, plus Rule 5, dictate a minimum height over the monuments that's not as low as you might like.

Consult the latest edition of the VFR chart.

Depending upon where you are flying from, there are also hillside white horses in wiltshire (north side of the salisbury plain) to enjoy. Also Caen Hill Locks. Unfortunately Old Sarum Airfield is now closed, as it was a good place to stop.

In addition to the various white horses around Salisbury plain, there are also the Fovant Badges and the Kiwi

Yes, usually it is no problem to request an overhead via Boscombe. Simply call MATZ and politely ask.
My statistics says 95% you get an ok and that was even before Old Sarum reduced traffic to nil.

Make sure you stay south of Larkhill Army Camp; they fire field guns at high trajectory from there northwestwards (usually about 327 deg)
