Who just renewed a GR at the old price, only a day after it comes through the post, they have applied a 50% reduction of the fee.
I held off as long as possible knowing they would reduce the fee seeing as they were going to charge per exam sit.

Ah yes but, when will the on-line scheme come in? All gone very quiet, just like changes to RT practical. I'd have thought the CAA people would have had time on their hands to sort this out, seems not.

email just received;

"In our last communication, we shared an introduction to the new PPL e-Exams system, following a successful run of roadshows in January.

The original plan was to run a 3 month pathfinder phase with a small number of organisations commencing March 2020, with an aim to rollout to all training organisations in June. Due to Covid-19, the project has been paused for the last 3 months, but we can now confirm that the project resumed with the pathfinders at the start of July 2020. This means we are aiming to rollout PPL e-Exams to all training organisations choosing to deliver PPL e-Exams by the end of October 2020.

What we need from you

We will set up all organisations on the new system and we will provide you with your login details before the project goes live. In order to do this, we need to collect some information from you so that we can create an account for each member of your organisation that requires access. Please can you follow the instructions below to help us collect this information.

Access the data collection survey by following this link: https://www.surveymonkey. (https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.surveymonkey.co.uk%2Fr%2FXQFX6NQ&data=02%7C01%7CBen.Thorne%40caa.co.uk%7C60c76782f0164a842bda 08d823e96bc6%7Cc4edd5ba10c34fe3946a7c9c446ab8c8%7C0%7C0%7C63 7298832723711256&sdata=aTFJ3Xzsac4MnQwZmgbfFXDCHEpUYWFtPOQkLthyhso%3D&reserved=0)............................

Enter your training organisation information into the first question. Note: if your training organisation has multiple exam venues, please provide their addresses separately to [email protected].................
Enter details of one member of your organisation into the second question.
Repeat the second question for each ground examiner and administrator in your organisation. Please see ground examiner update below to help determine who will require access.
Submit one survey response per training organisation.

Ground Examiner Fee Update

The CAA Scheme of Charges for the certification & re-certification of Ground Examiners (GRs) for PPL, LAPL or NPPL has been reduced with immediate effect from £255 to £125, representing over a 50% reduction. The certificate remains valid for 3 years and no other changes to GR privileges have been made.

Once the pathfinder phase has finished, the CAA will only issue PPL e-Exams system examiner log-ins to those holding an appropriate GR authorisation. From this point an invigilator without an appropriate GR authorisation will not be able to conduct a PPL e-Exam.

An organisation can have as many GRs as they need, therefore you are encouraged to review your GR requirements and make any required nominations by application to the CAA under the reduced Scheme of Charges fee.

Please note: CAA documentation, Standards Document 11 with be updated to reflect this change during the pathfinder phase."

So is this optional or just don't do exams?

That will be the end of paper exams, online only after the trial is complete, that was my understanding from seminar.

The delay was caused by COVID-19 restrictions on the 'pathfinder' DTOs who had agreed to conduct field trials of the system. The CAA was all ready to go, but as the trial period couldn't, the launch was moved to the right.

The aim is to launch the system generally in October if the pathfinder field trials are successful.

DTOs will be required to meet the system requirements if they wish to offer LAPL/PPL exams. If not, their students will have to take the e-exams elsewhere. Any paper exams already taken by the students will remain valid within the normal period, but no further paper exams may be taken.

The quality and relevance of the new questions are a marked improvement over the previous sets. The e-exam security measures should also put an end to the widespread cheating and answer-spotting which has plagued the industry to such an extent that several EASA MS have refused to accept passes in LAPL/PPL exams sat in the UK, unless the CAA could validate them...

Question time

Can a microlight GR be included or do they have to apply for further GR approval

And

“Are they an invigilator? (Yes/No)”

What’s an invigilator?

“Are they an administrator? (Yes/No)”

And what’s an administrator?

What about RTF Examiners, they are not GR Examiners and need access to the RTF written examination?
