I am a Business Reporter with the BBC, and over the weekend I received a couple of anonymous phone calls (from Luton airport, as it happens) alleging growing discontent among working pilots in the UK - pay and rosters were mentioned.

Forgive me for making such a direct inquiry -- but can anyone brief me IN STRICTEST CONFIDENCE about what's really going on?

My e-mail address is [email protected]

My mobile number is 07736 480328.

Regards, Hywel Jones.

Hywel wrote to us a few days ago requesting permission to register. He's well aware of the lion's den atmoshere reserved for journos and the bitterness felt towards the standard of reporting you've all witnessed in your careers.

I'm writing to point out that he is a business specialist and not given the task of producing the gasp, shock, horror near miss stories so dear to your hearts. He has also been made very aware of the contractual obligations regarding contact with the press that most of us work under.

However, there's an unending theme ever since this site began. The clash between aviation professionals - flying, controlling and fixing aircraft - and modern business culture. There is a story to be told and, as ever, it's entirely up to you whether you ignore or take up the offer. That offer though does not constitute an invitation for abuse. If overwhelmed by the desire to bite back why not save on RSI injuries and just cut and paste a favourite diatribe from the scores of previous journo bashing threads??
