KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -- Preliminary reports indicate that Alaska Airlines flight 411, which was headed from JFK to LAX, diverted to Kansas City just before 4 p.m. after a disruptive passenger approached or attempted to enter the cockpit.

Alaska Airlines said the passenger was “combative” and “unruly.” They said the passenger threatened crew members and, at one point, threatened the safety of the aircraft.

The passenger was restrained as the 737 was diverted. The plane landed without incident. The passenger was then taken into custody by law enforcement.

The federal authorities have been notified, which is standard. Crew members are being interviewed about the incident.

The flight is scheduled to continue to LAX soon.

I wonder why it's necessary to divert if the problem case has already been restrained? Let them stay trussed up till destination and avoid the costs and disruption to others. SOP i guess.

A threat is a threat even when constrained.
I am a big boy and not easily intimidated. But, I was on a flight once with a very disruptive passenger seated in the seat ahead of me.
Even though the disruption was finally contained (not restrained) I was not at all comfortable for the remaining duration of the flight.
One eye on the xxxxxxxxxxx until we landed.
I doubt that I was the only one with those feelings.

Someone throwing punches? Get 'em on the ground as soon as practicable and then we can all relax.

As WingNut said, while the aircraft is still in the sky there remains the threat of another psgr taking matters into their own hands and seeking retribution. Also, having someone TuffCuff'd to a seat has to be regarded as a temporary solution. If an (unrelated) emergency were to develop you can't have people chained up like that.

LAX-Bound Flight Forced to Land in Kansas City Due to Unruly Passenger

Rick ChambersAn irate passenger caused an LAX-bound Alaska Airlines flight to be diverted to Kansas City on Thursday.

A man wearing New York Jets gear is seen on video making a scene on the flight, which left from New York, confronting the crew because he had to wait in line to use the coach bathroom while the bathroom in first class was empty.

Eventually, the plane was diverted to Kansas City, where police took the man into custody. Video footage from inside the plane shows other passengers applauding as the man was escorted off the plane.

The incident caused the flight to arrive about five hours late in Los Angeles.

A video report in the link below, the Alaska pax say the crew did a great job.

Another video report where it is said that Jwan Curry, 41 threatened to kill the pilot if he didn't get his way. That would certainly be enough to make me offload him mid-continent.

Updated 2 hrs ago | Posted on Sep 26, 2019KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -- An Alaska Airlines passenger whose alleged unruly behavior caused the plane to make an unscheduled landing in Kansas City remained in local custody Friday morning while authorities figure out what to do with the 41-year-old man.

Jwan Curry is being held in the Platte County jail on a 24-hour investigative hold, but is also preliminarily facing a municipal charge of disturbing the peace with excessive noise. He remains behind bars without bond and has a municipal court date set for Oct. 28, according to online Platte County records.

Alaska Airlines flight 411, which was headed from JFK to LAX, diverted to Kansas City just before 4 p.m. after a disruptive passenger approached or attempted to enter the cockpit, authorities said.

New video Friday morning from someone aboard the flight showed a man in a New York Jets jersey in the middle of a commotion. The pilot could be heard over the loudspeaker addressing the passengers and telling them there was a man in the aisle causing a disturbance.

The federal authorities were notified, which is standard. Crew members were interviewed about the incident.

The flight later continued on to LAX. There were 177 passengers and six crew members on the flight.

Since he is being held on a misdemeanor charge of disturbing the peace with excessive noise he will probably bond out before lunchtime unless additional charges are filed.

An Instagram video of the alleged perp bragging about how much money he makes and telling the cabin crew to call the mutha f***ing police. Looks like he got his wish.

What you needed was an Ex international Rugby flanker with a reputation, who just by standing up quietened down a disruptive passenger on a flight back from the canaries I was on. Quite a surreal moment actually. :)

Richard Hill? That's probably the flanker I can think of who would immediately have that effect!

I had never heard of him, but I can see now why his name was mentioned!
Often portrayed as the 'silent assassin' at both club and international level, Hill was renowned for his effective and abrasive style of forward play. Big hits, shrewd driving and energy-sapping support play, were features of his exceptionally well-rounded game which made him one of the most highly rated flankers of his era.
