Hi, I just wondered. If somebody here from Gatwick, how is it possible 2 aircrafts on main runway?

It's the same aircraft. Just the way the photos have been stitched together to create the image.

And on the busiest single runway operation anywhere I wouldn't be surprised to see two aircraft on the runway at the same time on a nice sunny day (admittedly not quite as close together as those on the Google map image!).
It's the same aircraft. Just the way the photos have been stitched together to create the image.
So another lesson for me :) " Nothing is as it seems"

For heaven’s sake don’t show that to Gatwick Airport. They’ll be off to consult on the financial benefits of such utilisation and before you know it the CAA will have rubber-stamped approval for 90 movements an hour before you can say Mammon. Next thing you know they’ll be using the taxiways as runways too :rolleyes:

Had a member of the public ring Cairns ATC to report a crashed Dash 8 on about a 2 mile final. Ascertained that the person was looking at Google Earth and the aircraft hadn't moved for over 10 minutes.

Gatwick is no longer the busiest single runway airfield. Hasn't been for over a year. Still busy though!

So even more interesting to see what the current 'busiest single runway airfield' can teach the team at KK! (And I have researched the current numbers :).)
12% in ATMs is quite a difference. I hear the latest idea from Crawley is to use both runways at the same time. Barmy!

I've no idea how busy Wycombe/Booker is,but your comment of clockwork mouse aircraft is totally a load of crap.Aircraft still have to be separated safely and these guys/ girls do it very effectively.

Even more exciting to have a mixture of both! Like Jersey in the 1960/70s, topped out at 66 in one hour half of them IFR commercial! Not compatible with today's traffic especially wake separation minima!

You're right HD.
IFR, Fully trained pilots who usually comply with ATC instructions, spacing on approach set up by approach radar, speeds flown as requested to assist with sequencing and if it all goes wrong the words "go around" still available.
ADV None of the above, resulting in a higher workload and scrutiny of each flight but still with the availability of "go around"

Happens at Luton. One aircraft lines up at the end of the runway while another lines up from the intersection.

Indeed there is. Funnily enough after over 40 years in NATS,West Drayton then the shopping centre that is Swanwick, I worked that out.Also, a clockwork mouse driver back in the day. Thought my user name might be a clue. TC=Terminal Control. Never mind, retirement is great!😃
