I'm sure I've read stuff before, but can you experts confirm if any duty is payable on used aircraft parts (structural brackets, not avionics etc), and what about VAT? I seem to remember buying through an eBay consolidation service and paying very little of anything, including freight! I'm probably buying from a salvage yard, so what needs to be put on the invoice to escape charges? Thanks in advance!

Duty and VAT will have to be paid. If you can prove (with paperwork) that they are aircraft parts (and it ain't always easy) you may get the duty waived for "end use". No way round VAT. And the carrier will probably charge you a fixed fee for doing the import.......

I can’t help with advice on duty and VAT, but my advice on shipping is to get the shipper to use the US Postal Service if possible. It is almost always cheaper than any courier service and there are no brokerage fees.
