Has anyone actually been able to take advantage of this service to save any money? My mobile phone service contract (SIM only) expired some weeks ago and I've been looking at renewals. I was with Vodafone and on going via the DDS website there were a couple of options for renewal - neither better than I could obtain by going to Vodafone direct. For example, both offers via DDS required a 24 month contract at a time when SIM only deals are falling in price. To give another example; I looked at car rental from San Francisco for 6 days and going direct to the rental car sites saved me £180 over going via DDS.

Oh, how different things are in the US when, for example, a ski lift pass in Squaw Valley is free with a military ID. A couple of years ago they even accepted a UK Military ID but, unfortunately, not this year. I have NEVER been able to make a saving using DDS which, for me, makes a mockery of the system.

Yes, and in the US they will "thank you for your service" at every opportunity. I've never attempted to obtain any discount because of my RAF service, and I certainly dont want any "thanks for my service" :*

I have to admit I do use one, it gets us extra on board spending money with P&O, plus 10% of a range of stuff we buy at Christmas and birthdays, not much but if they want to give a discount why not, never had anyone in the UK say thank you for your service and would not expect, nor want, them to.

Dell discount not bad. Travelodge 10% is pretty good. There are a fair few coffee shops on there and restaurants too (miller and cArter steakhouse). Alton Towers military families day was good.

I do find the rest of it is effectively replicating existing online discounts elsewhere and marketing them as a benefit to service people.

I got about 8k off a car. I got the DDS quote and then took it into the main dealer and played one off against the other.

Topps Tiles 10% our tiler could get 15%.

For telecoms etc Topcashback do good deals. TCB with Amazon is worth having too.

Yep - just used it (via forces cars direct) to get a big discount on a new car - main dealers couldn't get near the price.

Apple Store discount looks useful - about the same as educational or NHS discount but worthwhile nonetheless

Used it lots - got my money back (£5 for 4 or 5 yeras I think) first time I used it. Up to 30% off meals in some pretty good high street chains, 10% seems about average - Halfords, Clinton Cards, Burtons, Go Outdoors, Hackett - the list goes on.

KFC, Subway, Garfunkels, Harry Ramsden, Hotel Chocolate ..........

So why not? If I take the grandteeters out to eat, and someone - usually Frankie and Benny's - want to knock a fiver off the bill - who I am to argue.
