View Full Version : Airbus A330 windshear alerts

Hi guys,

I’m actually kinda new on the Airbus (on the forum as well :) ) and I have some questions regarding the predictive and reactive windshear alerts :

On the FCOM it says that all alerts are inhibited from 100 kts til passing 50´, it says the same on the weather radar manual (Rockwell Collins WXR 2100). But in the memory items it is written : « If either the flight crew or the WX system detects WINDSHEAR, apply the following recovery technique: If before V1 Only reject the takeoff, if significant airspeed variations occur below indicated V1, and if the flight crew determines that the runway is sufficiently long to stop the aircraft. »

As you can see there is no mention of alert inhibition for the reactive windshear alert, the only speed reference is V1. Any ideas ?

What is your question exactly? There's no alert but there are other indications like trend arrow reversing, speed fluctuating. Before V1 can rejecct if sufficient margine remains.

My question is whether the alert inhibition is limited to PREDICTIVE windshear or all windshear alerts (PREDICTIVE + REACTIVE) ?

Reactive windshear alerts pilots when windshear is detected by the FACs. Reactive windshear system is active at takeoff, rotation and any time below 1300 feet RA when flaps are set to a minimum of CONF 1.

Provides “WINDSHEAR, WINDSHEAR, WINDSHEAR” voice alert, the GPWS lights illuminate, and a red WINDSHEAR message displays on both PFDs.
When the windshear warning is active, all other ground proximity warnings and alerts are inhibited until the windshear condition ceases.

Predictive windshear aural alerts have priority over TCAS, EGPWS, and other FWC aural warnings. They are inhibited by windshear detection by FAC (Reactive) and stall warning aural messages.

Edit : I have just found this on the FCOM :
The windshear detection function is provided in takeoff and approach phase under the following conditions:
At takeoff, 3 s after liftoff, up to 1 300 ft RA

At landing from 1 300 ft RA to 50 ft RA


With at least CONF 1 selected.
So it’s actually inhibited until passing 50’ or 3 sec after lift off. Thanks.

Does this apply to the Airbus A 330 ? there’s nothing known as FAC on it.

No FAC, but Flight Envelope function of the FMGEC does the same thing.

Bottom line - no reactive windshear alerts on the ground. You have to watch your speed etc.

The document I have shows it is common to the A318, 319, 320, 321, 330 and 340....let me verify the official reference.

EDIT: This was one of those AB Safety First docs that no longer exists.
