View Full Version : A321 Range?

Quick question for any Airbus guys out there.

The quoted range of the A321-200 is 2650nm. British Mediterranean use their new A321s to fly direct LHR-THR (Tehran) which is a trip of about 2,500nm. That seems to be cutting it a bit fine don't you think? Bit of a headwind on the way home and you need a fuel stop.

As far as I can tell with A321 fuel consumption the flight would require at least 18 tonnes trip fuel, plus at least 4 tonnes reserves, giving about 22 tonnes. But as far as I know, the aircraft can only carry about 19 tonnes?

Do the BMed A321s (G-MEDF & -DG) have extra fuel capacity to allow them to fly these routes?

Thanks in advance.

Just noticed on the Airbus website there are two versions of the A321-200 with a supplementary fuel option, increasing range to up to 2,700nm. I presume BMed operate one of these?

Does anyone know therefore how much fuel capacity the BMed A321s have? Thanks.

Your numbers on the trip fuel and especially for the reserve are a little on the high side...

From my experience (not on this particular routing, though) I'd make that 16t trip and 3t reserve, so - voilá!

And there also is, as you have found out already, a version of the A321 with more fuel capacity...

The B.Med A321s have the Additional Centre Tank. The fuel load can be 21T. Works ok on the Tehran route. Just don't want a very strong headwind!
