Flying out of Liverpool last week, I noticed a Lockheed Electra parked on the apron. What a fantastic sight! The last time I saw one was in a book when I was a kid, and it was a pleasure to behold.

Surely there can't be many of these left flying - any pilots out there care to tell us all a little about the pleasures (or otherwise!) of these fine aircraft? I'm sure there'll be plently of interested readers. Let's hope the operators look after the remaining examples.

The one you saw would have been air atlantique. They are a cargo operation based in coventry with a knack for keeping fantastic old birds in the sky. Think they have 7-9 electras with two more on the way. Also have DC-6 and the DC-3 Dakota. Electra and -6 are the workhorse of the fleet, quite often seen at LPL. Dak is mainly on pollution control standby, Loaded with fairy liquid to disperse any oil disasters. Think it does a bit of cargo too. Few mates used to fly for them, seat of the pants stuff but awesome.
