Okay, now we all know that runway qdm's change from time to time, as magnetic variation changes, and this is usually a degree or so every few years round this part of the world.

How come then the LGW ILS has just changed from 262 i/b (or 082 i/b), to 260 / 080 ??? Thats 2 degrees overnight !!

Just down the road at MAY, it's just 1 degree, the Timba hold has gone from 311 i/b to 310 i/b ?

Any ideas guys ?

Yep.

They measured the QDM and found it to be 260/080.

The variation at LGW is slightly shifted due to the high concentration of Gold Sovereign rings in the Terminal building:p

To be absolutely correct (and 100% pedantic :D ) the QDM will be different wherever you are, since QDM is the magnetic track to a station.

I suspect what you mean is the runway QFU, which is the magnetic direction of the runway.

E-C - I don't know about Jepps, but I think Thales discovered an error in their printed variation which has now been corrected, making it 260/080. Since my FMC databases have random settings for variation at LGW from 0 to +6 I have taken VERY LITTLE notice of it!!

As a friend once advised - "land in a forwards direction on the runway ahead of you and stop before the end"

Confusion reigns. I did a Dover 2P last night and the Jepp plate says maintain runway track 082 while the approach plate says 080! Then when returning this morning to an ILS on R26 the FMC displays a message saying that the ILS front course disagrees with the FMC course. This needs sorting out.

Flapsone, no **** sherlock !

wysiwyg,

The fmc message about the front course is because the last fmc database update was 14/7, and the new plates are from 19/7. I guess this will be corrected in the next fmc update. You're right about the 2P tho.
