They have a "striking" resemblance to the MD-11s implementation, don't they?

Wait till we get the hundreds of catering/fuelling trucks that once passed under 737NG winglets meeting 737Max downwards winglets! I'm told the lower section unbolts for easy removal.

Goat, the split scimitar winglets are not unique to the MAX - they are on a whole lot of NGs as well. Looking around SeaTac recently I'd say roughly half of the 737s had the split scimitar configuration (not sure if any were MAX, but I'm sure most were NGs).
I don't know if they were all built that way or if the split scimitar is readily available for retrofit.

The scimitar winglets on the Max look a bit different to the retrofit ones on the NG. The Max ones look slightly larger and appear to have a more acute angle between the bottom and top 'winglet'. This is just my observation seeing them around on the apron .
