Such a coordinated act of terrorism reminded me of what happened EXACLY 31 years earlier.

A number of PFLP terrorists (and a woman), encouraged by lax security, hijacked FOUR commercial airliners and forced them to fly to a point in the jordan desert. After releasing the hostages, all planes had been blown up.
Happened on Sep.06. 1970:
11:15 -> TWA 707 from Frankfurt to N.Y./hijacked to Jordan
11:30 -> EL AL 707 from Amsterdam to N.Y./ hijack attempt failed & a/c returned
12:15 -> SWR DC-8 from Zurich to N.Y./ hijacked to Jordan
14:30 -> PanAm 747 from Amsterdam to N.Y./ hijacked to Beirut & later blown up at Cairo

3 days later a BOAC VC-10, hijacked on a flight from Bahrein to London joined the fate of the other 3 aircraft in the desert.
Not a single passenger live was lost.

This was possible to happen because of a highly developed infrastructure of the palestinian terrorist groups.

Similarities in yesterdays hijackings are obvious.
I do not want to compare the magnitude of both attacks, but the tools of the past became the weapons of today.

Yesterday marked a turning point in aviation safety.

god bless
