View Full Version : MH370 FINAL REPORT

It would surely be worthwhile to attempt some rational open discussion about the flaws in this long awaited report.
(The Australian tax payer has been hit harder than anyone in any other jurisdiction. If we have paid through the nose, through any incompetences, we want to know how this came about.)
A question to kick it off - Does the stated belief in the report, that the PIC is innocent of any nefarious act or acts, presuppose that the Malaysians decided at the outset to squash any mention of the suicide hypothesis?

"The leader of the first failed underwater search for MH370 conducted by the ATSB, Peter Foley, did not respond to questions about whether he agrees with Kok’s ( Kok Soo Chon, the Malaysian chief investigator into the disappearance) assessment , that Zaharie most likely did not hijack the aircraft but a “third party” might possibly have.
"Critics of the ATSB have pointed out the bureau has a big reputational interest in Kok’s conclusions being right, particularly the claim that there was no controlled ditching.
"The bureau based its search strategy on MH370 being a “ghost flight” at the end with “unresponsive pilots”, and that it crashed down rapidly in an uncontrolled “death dive” after it ran out of fuel on autopilot.
"If that theory is wrong and Vance and Keane are right and a pilot flew it outside the search area and ditched it, it means the ATSB blew $200 million of Australian, Malaysian, and Chinese taxpayers’ money on a search that probably had no chance of success."

(The author of the article quotes Vance and Keane as expert independent authorities.)

The foregoing is from THE AUSTRALIAN newspaper of 1 August last.

So it all comes down to "Somebody did it, but it wasn't anyone that was employed by the airline"

As an editorial in The Australian had it last Wednesday, the next of kin of those who perished deserve a whole lot better.
Does our Julie Bishop (Foreign Minister) have the gumption to confront the denials of the Malaysian government? Can Australia put its diplomatic relations with Malaysia on the line and precipitate a fresh inquiry with terms of reference aimed at obliging the Malaysians to reveal all they know?

Here you have the commitment of a crime, because of its unique nature, unparalleled in history. Obviously, the Malaysians know a lot more than they are willing to reveal. The wheels of justice turn slowly, but they do turn. The wheels of a massive injustice, hidden behind smoke screens, will not turn at all without a mounting sense of outrage.

That is uncalled for. Perhaps you did not notice the closure of previous threads. Perhaps you are tired of the subject, poor lamb. Perhaps you care not a fig for the grief of losing your loved one and seeing then an abject cover up?
(And if you have read the whole 450 pages, please share your conclusions.Otherwise please go back beneath your bridge.)

The other thread is in the "Rumours and News" section, which most Ppruners can't post in and which they can only see by logging out. So you might want to wind your neck in a little and apologise to the "some people" you insult so freely.

Going nowhere on this thread. There are quite a few wanting to post who have grave concerns about the lack of official empathy for those next of kin who are being treated so callously. Please open the discussion again.

Well, we all learned from Silk Air did we not?

Th extra fuel loaded, the last voice on record saying good night, the transponders going off shortly afterwards, ACARS no longer reporting , the turns and radio silence at the HCM hand over / Vietnamese FIR, flying the Thai Malaysian border with a turn around Penang, no other known pilots or any known terror suspects on board, the plots on the captains flight sim but they've pretty much cleared the flight crew more specifically the captain because they were not acting oddly.

I never expected them to throw one of theirs or nationalistic pride under a bus without a hand written note or photo evidence, but to dismiss the bleedingly obvious prime suspect and then suspect a third party without any evidence is farcical.

I'm not sure I see any official "callousness". The relatives of the victims want an explanation and "closure", which is understandable. But despite spending vast amounts of money on investigations (and even having a commercial investigation with a strong financial incentive) it hasn't proven possible to find the answers (or the bodies). I appreciate this doesn't satisfy the relatives of the victims, but as far as I can see the "officials" have run out of magic wands to wave - you can search around the inside of the hat for as long as you like, but you'll only find a rabbit if there is a rabbit in there to be found.

What further action are you suggesting "the officials" take?

Quite a number of informed observations point to a major and sinister campaign of obfuscation by the Malaysians, heading their side of the investigation. Considering the incalculable debt owed the large number of next of kin, that alone is sufficient to warrant the epithet "callous".

Muslim country authorities will not admit that Muslim pilots deliberately crashed their aircraft.Other instances where pilot induced crashes have been denied are: SilkAir Flight 185, EgyptAir Flight 990, Royal Air Maroc Flight 630.

What Muslim authority does SilkAir answer to?

They had the aircraft on several domestic radar plots returning to Malaysia and westbound beyond yet led the international community to a useless search off Vietnam where they never had a primary radar target.
captain calls govt number just prior to takeoff and aircraft disappears. I believe it was a threat to force a fair election at the time .. not one that locked up candidates on trumped up charges.
nope... the Malaysian govt is neck deep in it!!!

Interesting. Do you have a source for that bit of information or did you make it up? Of all the theories I've heard about MH370, this one I've never of before.

Put forward by some theorists as a "what if" " or a "maybe" but never corroborated. It may appear in some conspiracy circles but no mainstream blogs of forums I have seen".

My theory is they were simply covering their incompetence. MAS ops (2 phone calls only iirc), ATC and the military all asleep at the wheel.

Only when Jay Carney from the White House and Inmarsat publicly said 'we think it went down in the southern Indian Ocean' did Malaysia come to admit it happened.

But... in the recent report they say they knew it was 370 crossing the peninsula and deemed it not to be a threat!
Why all those countries who wasted their time and significant resources in the South China Sea don't call them out on this obvious inconsistency is beyond me.

So take your pick. They knew it from the the out set and failed or could not do anything and hoped nobody would notice. Or they were alsleep at the wheel and it flew past and only noticed it on radar looking at recordings and try to pretend they knew it was 370 all along, hoping again that nobody would remember they let everyone look in the South China Sea for a week or so.

I'll go with incompetence.
