View Full Version : Cheap but good immersion / exposure suits?

Since the main function of the lifejacket is to keep cold, dead bodies afloat I am thinking of investing in an immersion suit. Does anyone have any suggestions on types or where I can get one at a reasonable price, whether new or reconditioned?

Thanks,

QDM

QDM,

Don't know of a distributor in your area, but here's a link that might be of interest: www.mustangsurvival.com/

I don't have any familiary with the "ocean commander" immersion suits, but we used to wear the survival coveralls and various floater coats in the navy, and they were of good quality.

Best regards,

QDM,

S.E.M.S. sell s/h immersion suits for about £100 and sometimes have special offers.

Try this link

http://www.av8r.co.uk/acatalog/av8r_co_uk_Flight_Suits_23.html

These people sell used gortex suits for £99. I got one which is very good but they took 3 weeks to send it and needed a few reminders.

Thanks everyone. I have just ordered one from SEMS for £115 including VAT which has a neck seal and hood.

QDM,
Do post a picture here for us all to see when you try it on !

ps sounds a bargain even if it only saves your life once.

It would only have to do it once. If I ever ditch and survive I shall thereafter take up crochet.

3Q: only one suit - What about your passenger - duty of care and all that?
Sorry, forgot that the other seat will be full of the rest of the survival kit.....;)

I have just ordered one from SEMS...

Do they have a web site?

I don't think they have a website but they're on 01268 534427. Mine has just arrived. Might have to hop into the bath with it later and see what happens.

Just my two pence worth:

Think very hard about the SEMS GBP100.00 reconditioned Gas Rig suits.

I bought one: the rubber hood sounds good but makes you feel like a frogman: it is totally incompatible with a constant wear lifejacket with spray hood.and the only way to fit it is to roll the hood out of the way which acts like a rubber ring around your neck and is most uncomfortable. (and bl**dy hot)

When I tried to get my money back SEMS told me to f*** off.

Remember the SEMS stuff is ex oil rig passenger stuff and not suitable for piper warrior.

Still: you pays your money and takes your choice: I personally have a recon suit: I'll sell it to the first mug to offer me GBP20.00

There was a lightweight survival suit featured in Pilot a few (or more) months ago. It was around the GBP 100+ mark and lightweight suitable for GA rather than North Sea heli ops.

Talk to Bristow or Scotia Helicopters in Aberdeen. Everyone on board has to wear one for flights out to the rigs.
