For the 1hr of instruction required in revalidating a SEP rating, can the instruction be in any Class or does it strictly have to be SEP (eg SET or MEP)?

Same type or a TEST in any other class. MEP Training doesn’t cover SEP revalidation but the MEC test would.

FCL.740.A refers.

It doesn’t specifically say ‘same class’ but the inference is there by virtue of the mention of a test in any other class...

SEP(land) and SEP(Sea) can, I believe be counted as one class for this purpose.

As will TMG.

I think any hour flight with an instructor counts - providing you are acting in the capacity as crew on a class/type on your licence. I recently revalidated my SEP rating and I actually had a an hour type training which counted. But I was told a recent simulator LPC would have counted.

As the only Class you can revalidate by Experience is the SEP/TMG, then the training would need to be in those Classes. A Test however; including a Sim LPC, in any other Class/Type can be used as an alternative but, only a Test, not Training or OPC.
