Try this:
Delta flight from Detroit evacuated upon landing in Denver after smoke reported on plane (https://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/local-news/delta-flight-from-detroit-evacuated-upon-landing-in-denver-after-smoke-reported-on-plane)
Seems they had smoke in the cabin after landing (during taxi), not in flight, and evacuated on the taxiway.

"Right! Who's going to jump first?"

From this link, I read a passenger comment that made me scratch my head (https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/delta-flight-evacuated-because-of-smoke-in-the-cabin/ar-AAwZ1u0?ocid=spartandhp):
"The oxygen masks never came down and people began to freak out," D.J. Semenza told CNN. "The crew tried to keep calm and eventually called for an evacuation."
My thinking is that if you have smoke in the cabin, on the ground, that you'd not drop the oxygen masks since if you have a fire it might make it worse. (The masks do not seal against the face). Is my thinking correct? The oxygen masks are meant for a particular problem, which is lack of air to breath.
(I'll be happy to be educated/corrected if I misunderstand).

You don't. It's the quoted passenger who appears to misunderstand the purpose of oxygen masks.

My favourite part of that video is when the guy at the bottom helping other passengers just launches a suitcase 10ft out the way and it lands with a satisfyingly hard thump. (about the 55 sec mark).

Congratulations! You’ve just been exposed to organophosphates. (chemically identical to pesticides and warfare agents)

how about the bright spark who used the over wing exit and walked out towards the wing tip (about the 48 sec mark)..."how do I get off" And the woman standing mid-span taking pictures.

The most unenthusiastic evacuation I have ever seen. Obviously little motivation to get off.
