Nobody wins. Been there, done that! Hopeless. Trust is gone on both sides. This airline will never be the same.

Wow, I am speechless at how things change.
Westjet used to be the best airline job in Canada, and Air Canada was a financial basket case that some thought would close up shop (I didn't, they are in the too big to fail group)
Not exactly the other way around now, but something like it.
So when is WestJet merging with Air Canada ? :8

West Jet started to lose the plot around 4 years ago. As a fare-paying pax who formerly gave them 100% of my Canadian business, their move away from the SouthWest model, more towards apeing AC rankled: to wit the gutting of the West Jet $ Miles scheme; the installation of 'business' class achieved by cramming std seats closer together; the chopping of many 737 routes and cramming pax into the hideously slow and noisy Q400s (my most frequent flight went from 1h10m to 2hrs!) and their joke of an online booking tool which thinks 12-18 hour connection times within N America are perfectly acceptable. That before their fiasco into long haul with the geriatric ex-Qantas 767s.
I wouls suggest that all the Execs responsible for the above be culled, but the thing is, the market has moved on. Even if West Jet went back to the model that made it so successful, it would find Air Canada Rouge already there. I'm not a massive fan of AC rouge, but they deliver the convenience and value I want.
West Jet blew it. Big time.

What a shame
My time is over and long gone. For anyone out there who gives a *&?%, if you don't want to live in a country with only one viable airline with a big red tail, many people on both sides of the fence are going to have to give their collective heads a serious shake. And I mean both sides, or it will not work.
Have had the dubious joy of living through three company closures, one massive layoff with no guarantee of recall, and a ridiculous situation of multiple layoffs in yet another place.
Think guys, think. Do you really want to only have the equivalent of aeroflot as the only option?

The Westjet pilots need to make it clear to the company that the crewing at Swoop must remain in their scope otherwise it won't be long before the whole fleet is outsourced.

Admittedly a bit facetious but think about it a bit; decades ago there were many fair sized airlines operating airliners to choose from, albeit some of that was due to a regulated environment. So customers had a choice, depending on where they were travelling.
And now there are two choices only as far as scheduled carriers are concerned. If one goes poof or gets bought out, what is there left in Canada?
