Hour Building

Hi there,

I am planning hour building, what are the rules on the following, I am not sure. Can I pay my instructor to come along with me during my hour building and I log it as P1 time, just to help me get upto standard before CPL etc.

It is always wise to take someone with you during the initial stage of your hour building, not only because is more enjoyable but also because in a way is safer (decision making, lookout, fatigue, etc...).
The person who is with you can not be acting as Flight Instructor (otherwise the PIC would be the FI)

There is an instructor who is offering to come along during hour building and just advise you on the flight but its your flight, so this is against the rules, where does it state this?

Get the instructor to email you asking to come along as a passenger only, and leave their licence and medical behind. You're now definitely P1, and what you talk about on the flight is your business.

You don't need to combine hour building with CPL training - that's what the CPL course is for. The whole point of hour building is to build your confidence andPIC skills, which happens best when you're the only pilot. Maybe fly with an instructor every 10 hours to make sure you're not getting any bad habits.

if the instructor is offering this, (s)he is not doing you any favor, you have to cut the umbilical cord at some point and the sooner you do it the better a pilot you're going to be. I understand you might have some confidence issues, I was having the same issues myself. But the only way to get through them is to go out and fly. Take another student with you if you feel like it but leave your instructor at home!

assuming you are a modular student, to issue you a CPL you will need 100 PIC hours. You will not be doing any PIC flying during your CPL course so really you will need to walk into your CPL course with 100 PIC hours under your belt already. If you are paying your FI to come with you, you are not gaining PIC hours.. chances are FI will log these hours without even telling you and sooner or later you might get into trouble!
