I was at the airport yesterday and observed that for one airline there were separate vans/buses to take the attendants and pilots back to their hotels. The incoming crew also came in separate vans the pilots arriving 30 minutes later than the attendants.

Is this standard procedure or is this only for some airlines.

Also, do the flight crews get any say in where they are/will be put up while away from their domicile or is that a management tactic too.

Lastly, do some airlines provide any transportation at the pilots home base or not?

Just generally speaking only:

If the F/A and pilots stay at different hotels they will probably have separate transport. Separate hotels is a function of separate cost centres usually, each striving for the best bargain.

F/As often have an earlier report time than pilots as their briefing can take longer and they have to help prepare the aircraft before the passengers board.

In some airlines the crew associations will have some input as to which hotels are OK and which, from the crew point of view, are not. Basic requirements have to be met, such as comfort, quietness, availability of food etc.

I believe Emirates, in Dubai, provides transport at home base - or did and other companies provide a transport allowance.

It will vary according each airline and which part of the world they are from.;)
