A Factory built SportCruiser PS28 is Certified as EASA CS-LSA
Can anyone say what that actually means from a maintenance perspective?
i.e. Owner maintained under LAA
Permit type (if any) LAA/CAA
or full Monty part M organisation with Licensed Engineers.

Which is exactly why most people avoid EASA Permit aeroplanes - most of the restrictions and none of the benefits of an LAA permit aeroplane.

Though I can't speak to exactly the regulatory requirements which affect that aircraft, in general, it'll be on one, or the other side, of a line. That line is a type certificate, or not. If it was factory made, it was probably done so, so as to conform to a type certificate. Conformance to a type certificate will include specified maintenance requirements (read organization, and licensed mechanic). Local regulations may allow some variation from this, but that's probably a good starting point. Reading the C of A, or equivalent, for the aircraft, should also point you to the requirements for many things about the aircraft.

It is important that owners and pilots understand the regulatory expectations, particularly for maintenance, for aircraft they own or fly. Sadly, this is a less taught topic to new pilots.

I looked at the PS28 and had a demo flight. Was put off by the EASA permit side of things.
Which is a pity because it's a lovely wee aircraft.

A factory built Sportcruiser can not go on an LAA permit. Only early kit built Sportcruisers that were built in the UK under the LAA regime are on LAA Permits.
A factory built Sportcruiser is on an EASA Permit which basically means you give it to a maintenance organisatation to give you a big bill every annual similar to any other GA aircraft, PA28, Cessna etc.
As a general rule Factory built Sportcruiser are worth £10-£15k less than kit built versions because of the above.

Thanks for the info guys. So, the quest for a low hours, Tricycle undercarriage, kit built single fitted with the right engine and without an Airbus Avionics fit continues !

I think that you have more chance of finding something that suits you with a high wing compared with a low wing SportCruiser or perhaps Dynamic.


It might be a good idea to visit the LAA website and select the Engineering link. Look for the list of Type Acceptance aircraft.
