Morning Everyone,

Does anyone know if you can still go to the CAA at LGW to get FCL ratings issued on the day? I seem to recall the desk there had closed and they don't provide that service anymore, however some of my colleagues seem to think you can still go?

If anyone is in the know and could advise me I would be very grateful.

Not sure on the turn up on the day policy, someone told me you still can but the charge is quite high. What I do know is that you can make an appointment to go for the issue of a licence/rating rather than show up and take pot luck.

Short answer, yes, you can.

Long answer, it is on appointment basis only, to get everything issued the same day you have to pay 100 pounds + the charges for the rating on the license. I have to get my typerating on my license in a couple of weeks and that is going to cost me 221 pounds if I want to have it on the same day.

You can show up, but its subject to availability that you will be helped. And because you did show up you have to pay 200 pounds + the licensing charges.

Haven't tried the new e-licensing system, anyone already tried it? If so, what are the turnaround times? And how difficult are they regarding the documents etc. ?

Because to me it looks like with these changes the UK CAA is just here to take even more money away from you and putting some ink on paper while the people there usually don't know what they are talking about when you got a question....

Yes but the whole point is that since the introduction of the temporary rating certificate you don't need to get your rating issued quickly. You can fly for 8 weeks on the certificate signed by the TRE. There are still quite a few examiners who have not caught up with this, so remind them!

Yes, but in my case it's not applicable to me, since you cannot get one of those temporary certificates for the initial issue of, for example, a type rating. So I still have to go and visit them if I want it on the same day...

Funny, I asked the CAA about it the other day and they told me I cannot use it for that....

Doesnt matter though, since its no use for me anyway, there is more than 8 weeks for me between the finish of my LST/base training and going on the line, so I would have to visit them anyway to get it...

Sounds very strange. The CAA as usual showing they don't know their own rules. But here is a link to the form:

Section 2 includes Multi pilot type ratings. I have issued them and had pilots use them for various types.
But if you have more than 8 weeks between finishing the TR and starting line training you don't need one anyway. 3-4 weeks is usually enough for them to issue it when you send everything by post/courier. Unless they lose it of course...

I revalidated my Bell 206 Type rating in early February and applied through the e-licensing system on 7th February. My temporary certificate has now expired and the CAA are quoting at least another week before they get around to reviewing / reissuing.

If the backlog at Gatwick is getting this bad I would have thought that it wouldn't take much to allow the extension of Temporary Certificates from eight weeks to say twelve.

Anyone else suffering from these delays?

Yes it would because the Regulation would not permit it. ARA.FCL.215 (d) refers.

OK so if they can't allow an extension then what is to stop the original TRE issuing another temporary certificate based on the Assessment of Competence? He would have seen the flying eight weeks ago when he did the exam.

Can anyone kindly direct me to EASA regulations regarding having dual SFI ratings? Such as having A320 ~and~ ATR SFI ratings to be able to instruct on simulators for each aircraft type.

I can't seem to find EASA reference regarding having dual SFI ratings.
