Hi, Just wondering whether the Honeywell GNS-Xls will be ADS-B compliant? Or will a new unit be required?

Nidalap,

From my understanding, the FMS is independent of ADS-B......

Nidalap,
Check with the manufacturer!

ADS-B is based on raw GPS position so in theory is should be independent of the FMS but just how the data gets from the GPS receiver to the ATC transponder is a question for the manufacturers.

ADS-B requires a WAAS GPS. I don't know if the GPS component of the GNS-XLs is WAAS capable, or if they can be upgraded? If not, then a stand-alone ADS-B unit with built-in WAAS GPS will be the only choice (short of a complete FMS replacement).

Sorry but you are incorrect. It is possible to buy a TX with a built in GPS unit that doesn't require a seperate unit.

In Australia to be compliant a TX needs to be coupled to a WAAS GPS however you can get a stand alone Garmin unit and in my case my aircraft has a 129 GPS

dhavillandpilot,
Thanks for the clarification. That's kind of what I meant, just didn't say it well.
