I've always enjoyed reading about his past life at CPA.
Although I've never met him, he seemed like a top bloke!

Was he a god? A website all about himself?

What a silly question Oval, did you not see where he was born :E

96, wow, he must have done something right, maybe it was the retirement at 55.

RIP

Well, he actually lived an extraordinary life and had a story to tell.

I've only known him from a distance, and been amazed by the anecdotes. He flew in the times when aviation was an adventure, and quick wits and a good dose of luck were needed to survive.

RIP

Turn off the "douche" mode for a little while and try to keep some perspective.
A real aviation enthusiast who would have seen more in his lifetime than most, Chic was a real pilot, not a snowflake wannabe.
Was he a God?
In a way, yes, he was.

As an outsider, many thanks for the link, Some wonderful photographs from an equally wonderful, almost forgotten time from an individual I wished I had the pleasure of meeting.

I suspect his website gave him a lot of joy.

Well, he was a writer. You should check his books sometime.
He's got some great stories about the pioneering days of CPA and wrote about, thank god someone did and we can read about them still.

Thanks for the link. I will thoroughly enjoy working my way through it.

I was a CX wannabe in '88/9, and I know this pioneer's name from my time pouring over CX history in preparation for the interview.

My old man flew with Chic back in CX late 60's into the 70's on the CV880. Has fond memories of the adventures.
Condolences to Chics family, blue skies to Chic.

RIP Chic. The saddest aspect of looking through all the wonderful photos he had on his website, was the realisation of how much the Swires respected and treated the aicrew well back in those days. You can see the pride he has in working for the 'firm'. Shocking what has come to pass.

When people used to say "I'm just a button pusher" you assumed they did an office job, today they're commercial airline pilots for the most part..................better view though.

Very interesting web site and photos in particular.

His section on Masonry shows the company tradition of this stuff goes back a long, long way...very strange.

Indeed it is Curtain, indeed it is!
There are certain people in power who would not, and should not, be in those positions were in not for certain 'great architects' if you know what I mean.

As for Chic, what a great life, the stories he could tell of what it was like back then.
Damn fine innings!

Fine innings is prophetic as he was a handy cricketer as well as a black belt in judo. Probably the last survivor of the 1950's joiners. RIP Chic.

Agree with Traf. Chic (and many old timers like me) would be shocked and disappointed at the toxic relationship the so-called Managers now have with aircrew. Stupid stupid stupid - all you Oxbridge 'yes men'.

CrewK - absolutely right - they only say "yes" to those senior to them. Misguided to say the very least! Another interpretation is that they are a collective bunch of spineless fools.

The acting DFO is prawn, a form of Spineless Jellyfish is it not ?

Every airline has their old legendary pilots and Chic was CXs. I had the chance to meet him a few years back and CX city and had a nice chat regarding the publishing of The Tales of Betsy.

CSVU, Capt Eather.

Fair weather and following winds for your last flight Captain Chic Eather.

Chic recorded history in his stories that will inform the younger set and preserve the history of the early days of modern airline flying in Asia for us all.
