View Full Version : satellite spot SE England?

Over SE England, about 15 miles south of LGW, I saw a bright white spot moving across the sky at apparently very high altitude. Elevation about 55 degrees and decreasing, in the SSE. Time was 1800 local, Sun 14/07/02.

Having checked the nasa site, it wasn't the ISS.

Anybody know what it was? Suggestions of little green men need not be made - unless you've got evidence in which case I guess that might be interesting :)

Thanks

Sounds like an iridium flare.

Lots of details (http://satobs.org/iridium.html)

Predict when one is coming (http://www.heavens-above.com/)

Would more likely be just another satellite - there are plenty up there and they're very visible when they pass under the right conditions. There are lots of programmes about which forecast satellite passes but I confess that I don't have any at present.

Thanks all.
HD - It wasn't just another satellite - it was a bright blue sky at the time.

Seems it was an iridium flare. I didn't realise these iridium satellites were so visible in broad daylight, amazing!
