The forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Manchester have spawned TRA's as detailed below:-

AB 5339 22 JUL 0600-2400 5000ft (J330/02)
23 JUL til 04 AUG H24 5000ft (J330/02)

These regulations shall not apply to aircraft flying with the permission of Greater Manchester Police or aircraft flying in
accordance with a clearance issued by Manchester ATC. AIC 43/02
Mauve 58) refers.

Effectively this means areas around the Manchester City centre inside the EGCC CTA and more importantly a rectangle west of Bolton south of Chorley and east of Wigan which penetrates the TMA. The latter a favourite area the Barton based a/c use to practice upper air work inc aero's.

Might be a good idea to mention this to fellow pilots or pin something on notice boards for anyone planning to fly in the area during the Games

From the Barton website, www.lancsaeroclub.co.uk :

"Local Area Airspace Restrictions

Restricted Airspace will be in force from 22nd July until 5th August. All pilots intending to fly from Barton for this period are advised to

AIC 43/2002 Contains the details.

PPR Required

Due to certain restrictions during the period of the Commonwealth Games, pilots of inbound aircraft are advised to telephone beforehand for PPR. Call us on 0161 7877326 and ask for ATC. "

Whilst the city centre TRA is wholly within Class D/A airspace, and a/c flying in accordance with a clearance from EGCC ATC are exempt from the restriction, I imagine that Manchester will not be readily granting zone transits during the games.

Additionally the TRA arond Chorley, as Sir George says, is right in the middle of the Local Training Area for Barton traffic.

Please, everyone read the AIC and the posters around Barton
