I've got a couple more questions which I'll post separately, while I'm at it.

If the ATIS is broadcasting "expect ILS approach" and we get "cleared visual approach", if the situation arose would you (ATC) expect us to perform the go-around as per the ILS approach chart or per standard visual approach go-around requirements (runway heading/climb to assigned altitude) ?

We've been searching through the AIP for answers.

Coming into Perth ILS 03 the IAP would require us to make a left turn at 1500'.

Cheers,

TM.

"ENR 1.1 - 36

2.15 Go Around and Missed Approach Procedure in VMC
2.15.1 In the event that an aircraft is required to go around from a visual approach in VMC, the aircraft must initially climb on runway track, remain visual and await instructions from ATC.
If the aircraft can not clear obstacles on runway track, the aircraft may turn.
2.15.2 The exception to the above procedure is that, at Sydney, visual go arounds must be carried out:
a. in accordance with the published ILS missed approach procedure for the runway the aircraft is using, or
b. as directed by ATC.
2.15.3 In the event that an aircraft is unable, or does not wish, to land from an instrument approach in VMC, the aircraft must carry out the published
instrument missed approach procedure for the instrument approach being flown, unless ATC directs otherwise."

So you would be expected to perform a visual go around. However confusion arises from the fact that some airlines require their crews to carry out the published missed approach for the instrument approach, which is contained in our MATS and we're to expect and allow in our separation for that...

In my Tower (Class D) when in doubt or need due following traffic , we'll confirm intentions prior to commencing the approach.

Local procedures, especially in an airport with a busy circuit (Perth...?) may warrant that the published missed approach is carried out...

2.15.3 above leads me to think if I've been cleared a visual approach from an IAP then we have to conduct the IAP missed approach, not a standard visual missed approach.

I'm really glad you pasted this section of the AIP because it was this very paragraph that has brought the question to mind.

Interesting that we should both come to a different conclusion.

In this scenario, if we're given an ILS approach we will brief performing the IAP missed approach regardless if we stay in IMC to the minima or are cleared visual in VMC conditions.

Not quite sure if there's such a confusion as I will continue with but...If "cleared for visual approach" then 2.15.1 applies. If on a IAP, you report "visual" when below clouds but ATC does not (as should not) clear you for visual approach, then 2.15.3 applies.
