Question about the US second in command rating. Where can I get this for a GV? Here is the plan--rather than going to FSI and getting the full type-rating, my employer, a pilot himself, has suggested getting a second in command rating, fly 50-60 hours and then get the type rating, knowing what to focus on, which questions to ask, etc. As I have lots of Challenger time, the idea doesn't seem too off base, actually. Working with the avionics (used Honeywell before), endless chats with the PIC and poring over the books, then going to structured initial, could emulate what we experience on recurrent every year---learning more and more!

But where and how to get the SIC training on a GV? On new types, I've always gone right for an initial.

737525, You missed his point. He WILL pay for the initial, he just has the idea that the timing is a bit "off" in the now popular sequence of initial and then landing training and then fly what is still a somewhat unknown quantity. As a type rating is NOT required for the co-pilot, although training IS, before getting your second in command approval, his old-school approach, which was at first an odd thought, actually made some sense. Initial study of systems, three take off and landings. Recommendation from the Instructor and then go out and fly with an experienced GV captain. After those 40-50 hours, do the initial and really have an idea what is going on in this type when you get to the initial. Like I said, it was a bit odd when he first suggested it, but made sense the more I thought about it. But the point is, I have no clue as to where to find a GV instructor for this. Obviously not in Hampshire or thereabouts, as it isn't a legal option outside the US.

By the way, it is all described in 61.55 rather concisely.
