Evening,

My mum in her wisdom has moved from a stones throw from Compton Abbas to Ormskirk in Lancashire...

Anyone know of any farm strips in the area. I've been in/out of Haydock Park which is good (albeit expensive) but also not that close. I need 500m..

When I win the lottery, I will buy fields both north and south of Manchester and open them up to the GA community!!

Thanks!

P!

Good grief! Why on earth did you let her do that?

I have said that several times...

Why are there no sensible strips anywhere in that part of the world?

Don't worry Pudnucker we're with you - been saying that for 40 years :ugh:

I was part of the group that operated the last SEP at Manchester - unceremoniously given a months notice to leave and the aircraft ended up in Liverpool.

Because of the combination of controlled airspace and topography there are precious few places to site a viable GA field. The loss of Stretton I felt very keenly, as the remaining ex-FAA runway could have provided a 1000m tarmac strip, open approaches and room for hangarage....:{

Ince is literally the only farm field in that area and at 410m is no good for you unless you switch to 3 axis Microlight.
Woodvale has a few GA based there not sure if they still accept visitors.

I used to fly parachute flights out of Burscough decades ago. Is that still usable? It's right next to Ormskirk; indeed back then the ORM NDB was on the field.

Burscough (Hms Ringtail) is mostly built on now I think, some is industrial estate /units and the remains of the tarmac has a car boot on it every Sunday. Not aware of any aviation there in recent years (I believe there's a model aircraft club up towards Rufford, but that's it).
