I agree that it's wrong to mislead anyone about anything. That said, back in the day I scheduled all of the flights of Worldways DC-8-63s. Certain departures from Toronto were on the edge to non stop to the destination. To be conservative, I always scheduled a fuel stop in Mirabel. If it was not needed that day due to favourable atmosphere, and the ability to fly the route non stop, we would delay the departure time so that the arrival time at the final destination would be unaffected. This worked perfectly fine, and everything was declared, though there was some " 'esplainin to do" for the passengers, who complained about the delay if we did not need the fuel stop. We just had to point out that they would spend less time on the plane, and would get there at the same time anyway. That settled it every time.

Takes me back. Trundled across the Atlantic a few times on those.
