Yep, with you on that YPJT... it does make one wonder whether to some extent, hardening to these types of situations is what makes the people involved in the UA incident overreact. Not and excuse by any means but I know people who steel themselves before dealing with people like this bloke and it's been going on for years.
Way back, seem to remember a story about a Duty Manager with Ansett in Perth who approached a bloke abusing his wife verbally in the checkin area one morning. The DM said "Excuse me, we are not going to have that here" to which the bloke went to hit his wife blaming her for the DM intervening. When the DM stopped him mid-swing, the bloke took a swing at the DM who then ducked, rose up and dropped the bloke like a bag of potatoes in the middle of the check in area.
The DM was not charged as it was self-defense - I remember thinking at the time though... good, guess that guy will think twice before taking a swing at an airline person again.
