Rochester - What a Welcome!

Hi All,

Further to my other posting about Sandown seemingly wanting to discourage motor gliders from visiting, can I recommend that any displaced pilots or anyone who is just looking for a nice place to go to, considers Rochester (EGTO).

Having visited this Bank Holiday Monday (after Clacton was shut due to it being a Bank Holiday!), from the initial contact to departure, the experience was 100% friendly and pleasant. Its also an interesting VFR trip.

Surprised to find when attempting to PPR that Clacton airfield was shut on Monday due to it being a Bank Holiday! Does anyone else think it strange that on the day when most people think about a trip to the seaside, the airfield closes?

Years ago they used to have a boot sale on the airfield on bank holiday Mondays. If they still hold them I suspect that would be the reason for the closure.
