I have relatives that live near a small grass airfield in the south of England.
There is currently a planning application in for 460 homes which the owner argues are necessary for the viability of the business which at this stage, seems unlikely to be granted as it is in a conservation area and not under the terms of a core policy.. This has resulted in a contract being given to a helo company training Chinese search and rescue pilots, now it appears,operating late into the night with the resultant noise of constant hovering.
The residents of the area have had no problem with active and busy fixed wing activity, and indeed welcome it, but this new step seems to be a way of 'punishing' the locals for their opposition to the development or alternatively, beating them into submission by implying this be what they can expect so the housing would be the preferable alternative.
My question is; are there any restrictions on the type and time of night flying on a standard CAA license? And are 125,000 landings/take offs a realistic figure as stated in the the above local newspaper article? It seems a bit excessive.
