At airport in Wau, South Sudan

All the reportedly 44 passengers on a plane that crashed at an airport in Wau, South Sudan “miraculously” came out alive.

The South Sudanese National Courier newspaper carried photos showing the burned-out wreck of the South Supreme Airlines plane on the tarmac at Wau Airport.

Initial reports suggested as many as 44 people were on board at the time, though official passenger lists were not made available. An aid worker near the scene of the crash told Reuters: “No one died but there are a number of injured people right now.”
Photos from the scene show fire engines dousing the smouldering wreckage with water.

A South Supreme airplane has crashed in Wau at the Airport this afternoon after departing from Juba.

The manager of South Supreme Airlines in an exclusive interview confirmed the airplane crashed but there were no casualties. He said that he has communicated with the South Supreme Airlines manager in Wau who said that all the passengers had been removed from the plane before it was destroyed by the fire.

A passenger who had travelled to Wau on the same flight only days earlier remarked that it was only a matter of time before such a crash occurred.

There is however no indication about the cause of the crash.

Images emerging from Wau show the mangled debris of the aeroplane and a fire engine trying to extinguish the fire. The Manager, Mr. Gabriel said that all the passengers will be taken to hospital to check for any other injuries they might have incurred from the flight.

The President's spokesperson, Ateny Wek, had earlier released a press statement on Facebook regarding the passengers of the plane but retracted it after confirmation from the airline that the passengers had all gotten off the plane before it burnt out. According to him, he had not been fully informed about the crash and removed it accordingly once the details emerged.

Wrong airline, wrong type of plane, wrong continent. At least it's a plane.

TBH, however, I suspect this may be a situation where MSN can't use the right photograph for copyright reasons (ie they won't pay for it) and possibly an automatically-generated image of 'a plane, any plane' was dug up - one where the usage rights permit re-use without paying. Don't imagine that there's an old-style picture desk scouring the photo library for just the right image for the story before publishing it.

Now you know why there is an element of truth in the statement of fake news. Misleading or innacurate is a better ststement but it just strengthens the argument

Possible APU fire?At least that would explain other (questionable?) news reports that the aircraft crashed into a fire truck waiting at the side of the runway... Rushed landing due to a fire warning?
APU is installed in the #2 engine nacelle?

Hmm, in that case, the fire truck theory holds more water, as the left landing gear collapsed and the fire clearly originated on the left side of the aircraft.
