Hi there,
Thanks for accepting me into this forum.
I had some questions regarding Air traffic control in italy that nobody could answer sadly. So I joined this forum hoping for somebody. Being an air traffic controller is my dream but sadly I don't know the requirements for it. I read somewhere that you need english ICAO level 4,a high school degree and something else I don't remember yet. Is that true? I currently study electronic/electricist(that's far away from my dream) so in case I couldn't apply for it,at least I have a second hand job. What do you need to be an air traffic controller?

Just learn this phrase "descend now" and you will be OK. The Italian's are the worst culprits for giving ridiculously early descents.

In most cases there isn't a clear set of pre-requisits. But indeed an acceptable level of English is definitely something you want to have. But don't worry. There is no need to have University level to be able to perform Shakespeare plays.
But best to check with the ANSP where you want to apply ENAV (https://www.enav.it/sites/public/en/LavoraConNoi/Current-vacancies.html)
You also have the possibility to try with Eurocontrol if you don't mind moving abroad; ATCO Eurocontrol (http://atco.eurocontrol.int)

Any specific example would be highly appreciated.
This is not to say we always stick to the 'top of descent' profile' (by all means, more often than not we don't), I'm just trying to understand how our job is perceived at the other end of the microphone, and possibly try to explain why it happens.

It's highly unlikely that we'll see new recruitments in the very next years,
the ICAO english level certificate is not part of the requirements but your skills will be evaluated and would be nice to show very good knowledges.
Do your best to make your dream come true, never forget to have a B-plane, and enjoy your second hand-job :}

From the nice people in EASA
Air traffic controllers and student air traffic controllers shall not exercise the privileges of their licences unless they have a valid language proficiency endorsement in English and, if applicable, in the language(s) imposed by the Member State for reasons of safety at the ATC unit as published
in the Aeronautical Information Publications. The language proficiency endorsement shall indicate the language(s), the level(s) of proficiency and the expiry date(s).

Our friend is curious on how to get the job, not the way to exercise a license he doesn't have and for wich you, without any doubt, need the language proficiency endorsement.
ICAO level 4 is normally done as part of the training.

Thank you! Anyway I usually play on those flight simulators games. I'm also a member of "VATSIM" a virtual network and mostly logged in as a controller. Is that a nice start? What do you think?

Hey guys, I'm new here, I am seeking an ANSP for ATC Training and I am looking around Europe, I wanted to apply to ENAV but unfortunately there isn't information on how to do so.
If someone could guide me as to where I could apply and send in my documents and advise me more on ENAV it would be great and very much appreciated.

ENAV is not recruiting at this time, anyway I'm afraid italian citizenship would be still requested.

I thought they would recruit European citizens like most other ANSPs around Europe, but thank you.
