I'm getting different opinions on this so thought I would throw it open to the forum:

I have a valid SE/IR....
I have held an ME/IR (it was initial issue) but I have not flown MEP for over 7 years; I am getting my Multi class rating renewed; What do I need to do regarding renewing my Multi IR? One school tells me as soon as I get my Multi back (providing my SE/IR is valid and my initial issue was on a multi) i can get the IR attached to my Multi. Another source tells me I have to do whatever training is required in order to pass a Multi IR renewal flight?

Any ideas?
Thanks

Any renewal of a Class Rating requires a Certificate of Course completion from an ATO. The ATO will assess what if any training you need. As you have a valid IR then you could do a combined Class Rating and ME/IR test

As you will need to do some maneuvers that can not be done on SE (as in OEI Go-Around on an ILS), you will need to go through an ATO...

A ME IR check can be used to extend (or even renew-depending on the circumstances) a SE IR, but not the other way round..
