Hi all

Has anyone had the pleasure of operating to or from Southampton recently. I'm potentially going to visit but am unsure on their fees and GA hospitality as such. If anyone has had any recent ish dealings then any info would be greatly received. Cheers

Someone posted about this recently on here. Verdict was that it was very pleasant and not ridiculously expensive... (I'll try to dig out the thread - if I didn't get it wrong!)

I couldn't find the post... Maybe I imagined it - or perhaps it has just disappeared (as they sometimes do!).

The information you need is on: General aviation and private jets Southampton Airport | Southampton Airport (http://www.southamptonairport.com/useful/general-aviation/)
Prices are at: http://www.southamptonairport.com/media/3772/conditions-of-use-2016.pdf on page 14 & 15. I don't know what you fly - but at a guess the average 4 seater GA aeroplane would probably be around £32

Last I flew through their airspace they were really nice, and reports from a friend who went there a few months back they were very welcoming and pleasant.

There was talk of overnight parking requiring to use Signature as a handling agent - but - they also offer parking rates - so might be worth chatting to them! (post is: http://www.pprune.org/private-flying/585882-tips-tricks-southampton-eghi-overnight-parking.html) but I would call them and ask (if you need it)

This might be useful too (especially for the parking spots...) NATS | AIS - EGHI (http://www.nats-uk.ead-it.com/public/index.php%3Foption=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=136&Itemid=185.html)

Try Lee on Solent instead. a short distance by bus or taxi from So'ton, and cheaper.

Very true! Only about £17 at Lee on Solent. But then the taxi there and back might put you on par with Southampton's higher fees and the train (if there are any...) into town.

Thanks for the info. I've done Popham and Thruxton and kind of want to tick the Southampton box now. Especially as it's all controlled and just adds a little variety. Thanks for the advice though and I'll update if and when I go.

Hi I used Southampton a couple of times over the summer from Guernsey.

You can request handeling direct from the airport (not signature) who charged me approx £45 for a PA32 with an instrument approach. The only snag is if you want to stay parked for any length of time. The time limit is 2hours. Over two hours you have to use Signature and the cost is significantly higher.

You will likely be directed to the Northern Apron and parked by marshaller. They have a car that will meet you and take you to the security gate. From there its a left to the main arrival hall which has a costa, toilets etc.

Return through the same gate (through the porta-cabin) the car will meet you. They take credit card payment in the car! It's pretty straightforward for a busyish airport.

Call airside operations on Tel: 023 8062 7102 they were very helpful. They have limited parking so usually wanted to know pretty precise times.

Have a good flight, remember the hi viz !

I use it quite often and they are very friendly and not that expensive. Book in with ops and do not use the (expensive ) FBO. Carry photo ID and your pilot licence to get back airside

Thanks very much....I'll let you know how it goes. May have to use signature as parking will be for more than 2 hours but I'll give the airport a call. Cheers
