Oh, you poor darlings; let's just ignore the defect and depart anyway. Is that really what the passengers want?

No Basil, but there were plenty of alternatives to get the pax safely to their destinations in much less time than 2 days. Last time one of my Long Haul flights was cancelled I was speedily put on another flight operated by the competition, and actually arrived at my final destination earlier than if I'd been on my original schedule!

its is a hard one to judge, i was the dispatcher on the Manchester flight that linked in the article. its not an easy thing just to move 280 pax onto other flights especially at man when we were the last flight out to Canada and we were already 2 hours late when the aircraft went tech. to move people on the following day was difficult as we then had the engineers saying it should be ready in a few hours, so your stuck in catch 22, do you move some or don't you. it was just unfortunate about the crewing issues later that day which put it back to Sunday.

Most flights were paxed to the max at the completion of the Rio Olympics. Few, if any, seats were available in their code share. Maintenance snags (issues) for all categories were taxed to the max during said period. Don't fault Air Canada. Blame it on Rio.
