We are reading the discussion on the Private Flying Forum of the North Weald airport, and realise that it lies within the Stansted south TMZ. Also Weathersfield Gliding site is in the north TMZ.

Why does Stansted require these TMZs? Surely at 10-12 miles out, none of their traffic is at Surface to 1500ft. This looks to be over-regulation at its worst. Gliders for instance have no power supply to keep a Transponder running.
Stansted should be more concerned with keeping its traffic way above 3000ft that far out.

It's all a bit tight on the 10-12 mile final point at Stansted when they are on runway 04. The London City departures routing via BPK are often stuck at 3000ft, the 1500ft base enables Essex radar to drop inbounds to 2000ft when turning onto base leg, thus de-conflicting with the BPK departures.

When on the downwind Stansted departures have to be 3000ft by BPK DME 9 also for this reason.

Meanwhile this SID is climbed underneath the Luton Match departures, which in turn are climbed underneath any northbound Heathrow departures.

It's a congested piece of airspace, and not over regulation as you suggested.

I forgot to mention Luton base leg arrivals descending to 3000ft if the runways scenario is Luton 26, stansted 04.

A) Large number of infringements of the Stansted (NOTE no 'a') CTA at 1,500ft or higher.
B) Essex Radar often put traffic on the Stansted ILS at 2,000ft.

Hi Nimmer, thanks for the reply. You must have some rare wind conditions if Luton is on 26 and Stansted on 04.... hi

Yep, and happens a lot more than you think it would.

Happens between Heathrow and City too.... also between Heathrow and Northolt.
