View Full Version : A320 EGPWS and runway selection in MCDU?

My question is regarding selection of the landing runway in the MCDU.
If for example I was going to sidestep to a parallel runway without changing anything in the MCDU, would this set off the EGPWS?

Does the EGPWS receive any info from the selected runway in the MCDU or does it rely on it's internal database of runways?

If it's separate and you choose to fly to an airfield not in the MCDU and selected an ILS in the nav page, then you wouldn't need to turn off the EGPWS to stop nuisance warnings?

If you can provide a reference that would be great
Thank you in advance

I think it depends on Customer Options; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runway_Awareness_and_Advisory_System

The EGPWS database is separate from the FMGC database and selections... Hence no/wrong airfield in the FM(G)C doesn't necesarilly mean terrain inhibit.

I have never received a warning from egpws in the 100+ swingovers (at about 6 miles from the threshold) that followed an initial ILS that I have performed. To a parallel runway 400m apart Without changing anything in the FMS. Just FD and ILS pushbutton Off.

Cough has is right, it's a separate database and not connected to the FMGC.
You can have a Terrain warning while on an ILS approach off the FM database, if that runway isn't in the EGPWS database.
