Hi
Can I ask please but why do some airfields have a Jeppeseen radar vectoring chart and some don't even though a radar service is offered?
I would have thought that all would need one.

It is up to someone at that airfield (sometimes but not always ATC) to design the SMAC chart unless they wish to pay someone else ie a procedures design company to do it. Maybe the airfields you're talking about aren't aware of this? The design has to then be approved by SARG before it is published. I carried out this exercise at Farnborough prior to the airfield changing from MOD to CAA regulation back in 2002 (MOD airfields in those days did have a radar vectoring chart but it used a totally different design method); the CAA issue a guidance document to tell airfields how to do this.
It's also up to the individual airfield to carry out a periodic review of their SMAC chart as obstacles my change

It might help us if you mentioned which country you're referring to, and which airports in particular. Otherwise we all start making assumptions!

UK MOD aerodromes are in the process of converting from RVCs to SMACs but it will not be a quick job.

... because of the RAFs insistence on using qfe for instrument approaches.

What again? I remember last time; it was all well planned and publicised to change to QNH based procedures and individual ATC units were visited and briefed by a team from No 1 AIDU. New plates were produced, procedures in local instructions changed then after about 2 years they very quietly changed back to QFE based procedures!

From what I understand there's a 'debate' going on between the fleets, or 'forces' as they seem to call themselves now regarding QNH v QFE.
