Hi,

I passed my PPL ground school with Derek last July. I had already read all the books & had progressed to some of the questions. I used Derek to do a refresher and the exams in one week. 1 on 1 was what I needed. Good Stuff!

Now Im at a similar place with my practical..Time, instructor availablity etc etc and my 2 years to finish is dwindling away..

Ive notice that D.D is offering a "Finish your PPL" course. Ive spoken to Derek and he recons 10 days / 2 weeks to finish (Im solo @35hrs)

Has anyone else here passed with D.D ? and is he as good with the practical as with the Theory ?

Anyone ???

Cheers & TIA.

So has the school you have been training at to date let you down?

No, I cant say that they have. I've had 2 schools currently. One is at a great distance (700km) and I would fly when I was in the area, and the current one is rather recent (10Hrs) and is nearby (120Km). The reason for perhaps choosing D.D was that it would be 2 weeks (Ive allocated 3 weeks in the diary) without the distractions of "normal" life..

...Just "Get it done" mentality...

When I was finishing my PPL I tried - albeit with the same school that I'd been training at - to finish it in a short time frame. About the same hours and I took a month off, theoretically plenty of time to get it all done and wrapped up.

Of course, I don't live in Florida with guaranteed blue skies...the UK doesn't work like that.

So, good luck but be prepared to fail in the goal through no fault of anyone's except the Weather Gods

I did my NPPL SSEA with him: yes and yes.

I revalidated with DD during 1991. I certainly recommend him.

Did my NPPL SSEA with Derek as well, recommend him myself.

In case it's of use, his website is www.derekdavidsonpilottraining.co.uk (http://www.derekdavidsonpilottraining.co.uk)

The theory and flying may be conduced at two different organisations, but since EASA took hold a couple of years ago, the option to flip between different schools is no longer there. All flying training should be conducted by one organisation; (FCL 210) which is responsible for certifying that all training has been completed and the candidate is recommended for test. Any handover needs to be formally arranged.

...........and certain organisations completely ignore that.

We had a student that had been given correct training and personally tailored bookings with a very experienced and respected instructor but just would not study for the writtens. He had completed around 10 hours flight training then stopped booking for about two months. A very short time later he informed me out of the blue he'd completed elsewhere..........

Went to DD many years ago for IMC course, nice enough sort of chap but wasn't at ease from the start, gave it a day (had booked for 5) and left next day. The whole setup seemed very shoddy ie took over 2 hours get aircraft serviceable to use and getting charts etc out whilst dodging the golfers etc (does he still use the golf club as his office?), wasn't quite my cup of tea. Took over 6 weeks get my money back but at least I got it which I suppose given the reputation flying schools have is a result.
