Going to the South-West of France shortly and noticed I'll be staying close to the Aeroclub Fumel Montayral. I was wondering if anyone knew about this airfield? Can you rent planes with an instructor or for pleasure flights, what type of planes do they have and do they speak much English - my French is rubbish!

Any info welcome.

No experience myself, but have you looked at http://navigeo.org/LFDX ?
Search for "cartes VAC", that will give you the official information from the local CAA, which is called DGAC.

BTW there's a quite active and helpful contributor from that region on another forum, feel free to pm for more info.

First and above all, though: polish up your French. Doing no radio at all might well be less bad than trying in English! Besides you'll need some French to have any success, later, with the restaurant waitress.

I won't be flying solo so not worried about the RT - just having an instructor who can speak English would be nice to discuss things with him. And my wife wouldn't be happy if I used my French on the restaurant waitress! Thanks for your reply.
