View Full Version : Technical Review Of New Syllabuses Published
The NPA can be obtained from Notices of Proposed Amendment (NPAs) | EASA (http://www.easa.europa.eu/document-library/notices-of-proposed-amendment). This is the first major proposal to update the theoretical knowledge syllabuses and learning objectives in a decade.
There are three months open for any comments. Hopefully there won't be many :)
The guys on the committee did some really good work which I hope the readers will appreciate.

We will certainly be commenting on the introduction of the new subject 100KSA.
First comment is that we enthusiastically embrace the concept.
Second comment is that the concept as applied is outdated in educational theory by about 20 years as the third term 'Attitude' is very difficult to measure. It is now almost universally acknowledged as KSB, where B stands for Behaviour as an indicator, if you like, of attitude.
Third comment is that the proposed amendment includes a provision for the KSA module to be completed before the final ATPL ground exam, quite contrary to the enthusiastic and worthy statement earlier in the NPA (page 7) where they say it is an area "which will be holistically integrated into and throughout the entire training syllabus". I think it is a huge mistake to force completion of KSA100 in the groundschool phase, particularly as most integrated candidates won't even have seen an aircraft at this stage, the completion point should be licence issue.

- revamp LOs
- abolish MCQs
- introduce oral exams and open question tests judged by a panel of specialists
- real competency verified by experts now flows into the industry

Paco. I have registered to the EASA website that allows you to add/edit comments to the various NPA 2016-03 documents but the editing system does not work and I can`t make any comments. Does it work for you? What am I doing wrong?
Sadly, I have no idea! :) I can forward a message to the people concerned if you like?
A couple of thoughts - are you using internet explorer? Maybe try Firefox or Waterfox?

I `ve used IE, Google Chrome and Firefox, but can`t get the highlighting tool to work so can`t add any comments.

I think they got it very WRONG in moving lots of navigational LOs from Gen Nav into Flt Planning. You PLAN on the ground and EXECUTE that plan in the air. Any corrections will be navigational solutions, Descent strategies for example come under the heading of `VERTICAL NAVIGATION` as far as I `m concerned.
The parameter MONITORED in flight is FUEL - hence the importance of CAP697.
Yes, of course you keep an eye on tracking etc but corrections (e.g. 1 in 60 rule) are NAVIGATIONAL techniques, not planning techniques.
A very good point - fortunately, you can't blame me for that one! :)

Phil, thanks for the reply and I am encouraged that we seem to be in agreement.
I still can`t find a way of making a comment on the EASA site - but I will keep trying. If you are prepared to pass on my views in the meantime, I would be very grateful! I feel quite strongly about this one.
To those who can't log on, apparently:
"Usually, if you log on in CRT and select the NPA you wish to comment on, you need to right-click on any of the segments displayed on the right-hand side of the screen in order to ‘add comment’."
If there is still a problem I can put you in touch with the tech guys.

OK, that seems to work. Thought I had to highlight the relevant text on the left hand side where the actual NPA document sits and then right-click.
I `ll try and add some comments tomorrow.
