2nm before the FAF you are to set MDA rounded up to nearest hundred on a NPA. Reset the MCP to missed approach altitude when more than 300ft away from the published missed approach altitude.

Why do we not set MDA plus 50ft at that point and just MDA? It would simplify the whole thing a bit more?

Depends on your company procedure i guess. Some do not add anything anymore as the chart depict a DA anyway and not a MDA anymore (well, at least under EASA jurisdiction).

That said, this procedure does only apply in LNAV/VNAV, in IAN you set the missed approach altitude on glide path interecept, same as on an ILS, no need to set the DA on the MCP anymore, the approach mode takes care of descending when needed.

Because the +50ft comes from the authority and the operator, not from Boeing. Your company may decide that +20ft is enough or you authority might say that it should be at least +80ft.

Minimum = MDA + height add-on
MCP setting = minimum rounded to the next hundred

Same for any NPA. If you are using IAN that is. After all the approach mode does the same thing and doesn't care if it is just a FMC calculated glide path, a broadcasted GPS glide slope or an old fashioned ILS glideslope.

How would you add 50' on the MCP? (I accept on the few occasions where the MDA is x50' you could)
